Dahi Sev Puri – crispy crunchy smooth tangy sweet spicy – a burst of flavors & textures in your mouth! This is a very popular street food item in India. This is one snack that is almost kind of a staple in my home. It is made with the simplest of staple chutneys & condiments, boiled potatoes, sev (gram flour noodles) and puri (crispy, puffed wheat crackers). You will find this crunchy puri any day at my home. If you haven’t tried it, you truly are missing something.
Chaat is a form of Indian Street Food which is versatile and has so many textures, flavors, and varieties that fall under that category. Pani Puri, Dahi Puri, Sev Puri, Papdi Chaat, Chhole Chaat, Dahi Bhalle, Khasta Kachori Chaat, Bhelpuri, etc. fall under this category. The list is quite long, and the best thing about it is, the recipes are quite adaptable in case you don’t have certain ingredients when you are making it. A few good chutneys like date tamarind chutney, mint-coriander chutney, garlic chutney are good and necessary condiments to make a great, flavorful chaat. I have given recipes of all these chutneys on my blog.
This is a vegetarian recipe which can easily be made into a vegan recipe by using vegan yogurt instead of the dairy yogurt.
And this is the ? first video recipe coming up later today… Tadaaaaa.. ? I am trying it out for the first time as a lot of my blog readers have been asking about video recipes. This video will is quite simple and was never intended to go on the blog and hence it’s just one trial shot, as I was just trying out to see how easy or difficult it might be to do a video recipe. But as the saying goes, ‘done is better than perfect‘ I thought I’d put this out on the blog since we’ve recorded it already rather than wait for making a perfect video recipe. My lovely niece, Nikki helped me shoot the video while I assembled the recipe. She is so cool and patient. Shooting and editing video recipe takes a lot of time and is not the easiest, and hence I was always hesitant to get out of my comfort zone. So hats off to the efforts of all the lovely food bloggers who make cool video recipes.
Even at midnight, when I am working and hungry (yes midnight snack is kind of my main meal of the day :)), I don’t hesitate to assemble a dish of Dahi Sev Puri. It may look elaborate, but it is quite easy and each bite is worth every bit of effort. I keep all the chutneys ready in the refrigerator as these are versatile chutneys and go with all kinds of Indian chaat dishes.
So without further adieu, here goes 🙂

- Assemble the puris with all the stuffing and chutneys right before serving. If done earlier, the puris will lose it’s crispness and become soggy.
